Dear BlimeyCow, my name is Rachel and I’m from Dublin, Ireland. I know you must get too many emails to read but I had to tell you how refreshing it is to see people my age who I feel are genuinely funny and have solid values. In today’s society it is so hard to to find entertainment that isn’t rude or just obnoxious, I’m so happy I stumbled across your youtube channel! My family and I look forward to your videos every Monday, my sister and two brothers sit down and are often in fits of laughter, they often lead to interesting discussions at the dinner table! I also have showed some of your videos to some people in the Christian society in my college who are now fans! I just wanted to say that I think you are all great role models and you have fans across the atlantic! Go raibh míle maith agat (that means thank you so much in Irish!)
Hey Josh! If you could meet one famous person, dead or alive, and talk to them for just one hour, who would it be and why? (exclude Jesus, if that's your answer, because you're already guaranteed to see Him in Heaven).
I think Ron Paul would be an interesting guy to meet and chat with. He seems like he’d have lots of interesting stories to tell about his time in Washington.
When you guys make a video, what is most important to you? Can you talk a bit about the process of how you make your videos, and what you try to put into them, whether it be themes, or how you film the shots, or the writing of it, editing, etc. I'm a big fan of your work - keep it up! :D
Yeah, great question!
Well, the most difficult part is coming up with the initial idea. We basically just try to think of things people can relate to, but present them in ways people haven’t though about before. Once we’ve done that, we figure out the structure of the video- all the points we want to make about the topic. Then we try and fill it out with jokes and decide on pacing etc. Shooting the video, we usually shoot all the “skits” first since those are easier and more fun, and then after that, we shoot Jordan’s monologue parts. Shooting takes about 3-4 hours. Editing is…editing. No fun stories. It just is what it is. Kelli and I watch the video probably a trillion times and usually end up cutting things out that worked on paper but didn’t end up translating.
I guess that you get loads of questions like "Will you marry me?" or other junk, but I really admire the way that you look at the culture we live and you mock it so well that it's funny. The question is... when will you delete you facebook account?
This is josh answering. I didn’t have a facebook account for a long time- I actually only reactivated it when we started doing Messy Mondays because I realized that the hard truth is that I needed social networking to get our videos out there.
Are you guys in college? If so, what are your majors? :D
Jordan is finishing up his sophomore year. He’s an english major! I graduated a couple of years ago with a degree in Mass Communications, and Kelli went to a couple of different colleges studying photography/graphic design.
Okay, so there is this guy I like and if I get in a relationship I would want a guy that I can share my relationship with God with. I would want to be comfortable praying with him and talking about scripture with and what not. I'm not too sure if he's comfortable with that. Is it too much to ask?
You need a guy whose priorities line up with your own. Never compromise.
Do you think you'll make videos similar to your short movies from a few years ago? ps get well soon (:
Thanks for the well wishes. I can’t really say, honestly. It’s top secret. But I WILL say that if you like our older style videos, you’re going to really enjoy the Summer of Blimey Cow which starts June 8th ;) Hope that doesn’t give anything away ;P
Oh man, that’s a really long story. Sometime Kelli and I will have to share it with the internet! Suffice it to say that it didn’t take long after I met her to know that I was never going to meet someone better, so I had to make sure it worked out, haha.
What is your very favorite video y'all have made? :)
The made this video back in like 2004 or 2005 called “The Boot”… I don’t even think you can watch it online anymore. I think I took it down. Anyways, it was the first real “movie” we ever made, and it’s always meant a lot to me.
